New Music Alert: 2:54

Featured on the artists to watch in 2011 list earlier posted back in January, 2:54 are coming back out of the shadows with a new set of material.

The London duo of Hannah and Colette Thurlow only formed a year ago, but having had support slots for the likes of Blood Red Shoes and Warpaint, with their mix of silky vocals and grunge sound leaving many in the crowd wanting more. To describe their music is to almost get lost in every clichéd reference to female grunge sounds and yet still not be correct. My interpretation is if you slow down Queens of the Stone Age, throw in some of the best garage rock bands you’ve ever heard and add some of Hole‘s deeper sound and you might be somewhere into 2:54’s thought processes. Recent months have looked quiet for the band, but they’ve been away allowing hype to build, playing the odd show and working on recording new material. Today sees their brand new single ‘On a Wire’ released on House Anxiety Records and you can listen to a version from their SoundCloud below.

Be sure to try and catch the band on tour over the next few months. If you can’t manage that, stumble into a festival’s new music stage and you may be lucky enough to have your hangover melted away. Their tour dates are the following…
